MBA Intern Series: Idaho Falls Field Day 2016
By Hannah Plotkin / July 29, 2016
Hannah Plotkin is a MBA intern based in our New York office this summer working with the Global Communications and Agriculture Development teams. So far, she’s traveled to Southern Idaho, Belgium, and Zacatecas, Mexico to support SmartBarley and our farmers. Hannah is currently a student at NYU Stern.
On July 14, over 300 people came out to our annual field day to recognize our Idaho barley growers and celebrate the key (and often hidden) role they and their families play in making our beer. The event kicked off with a tour of the barley research plots. Our research team shared information on the latest work they’ve been doing with a look at new varieties, as well as seed treatment and fertilizer trials.
The rest of the day was entertainment-filled for our growers and their families - we’re sure the children present won’t forget their visit from the Budweiser Clydesdales, which made for the perfect photo opportunity. Growers, families, and our team mingled over burgers and beverages, including a special edition Idaho Barley beer brewed specially for the day (only 350 bottles!). Our Chief Procurement Officer Tony Milikin had an opportunity to speak with the crowd, thanking our Idaho growers for the hard work they do year after year. We honored local veterans with a flyover and singing of the National Anthem. We also celebrated the many growers in attendance over 80 years old, and made a special shout-out to women working in agriculture - including several who were in attendance.
We look forward to the other grower field days taking place worldwide throughout the rest of 2016! #lovebarleylovebeer
